el pago

The Winery and Vineyard of Vallegarcía are found in the heart of the ?Montes de Toledo?, within proximity to the Cabañeros National Park.

El Pago, a Spanish term to define the unique interaction between climate, soil and plants that leads to a very specific and original wine- is found within one of the largest and finest examples of Mediterranean forest in the world, in a unique natural landscape which retains flora and fauna of great ecological value and natural landscapes that remain intact.

the vineyard

The vineyard has been designed by the highly respected Australian professor of viticulture Dr. Richard Smart. Five red varieties have been planted along with a one white, all trained in a cordon de Royat which is a unilateral branch on which the spurs are situated, named after the French agricultural school Royat – while the trellis is a Smart-Dyson, spur pruning takes place. Red varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. White variety: Viognier.

architecture

(Martínez-Pita, Arquitecto)

With a plant in the shape of a cross formed by two thoroughfares that create three distinct areas coresponding to the same amount of activities within the production process: grape fermentation, wine at rest (in its various stages) and the bottling and storage of the wine.

Respect for the environment, a discrete shape, natural materials, light in accordance with each process, earthy colours… the resulting building is a synthesis of all these conditions passed through the seive of aesthetic intention.
